Here are a few tips how to sell fragrance oils. This is a prime home based business because starting requirements aren’t costly. Some of the things that you will need include:
Fragrance OilsBusiness CardsKnowledge of Where Customers Look For Fragrance Oils
The third criteria might be obvious to most, but, oddly enough, many small business owners that sell fragrance oils, mistakenly believe that the fragrance oils will sell themselves and customers will seek you out. This simply isn’t the case. Actually, no product sells itself – no matter how ‘good’ the product is. All businesses require marketing.
The three marketing basics are:
- Find an audience
- Find out what that audience wants
- Sell it to them
In this challenging economy, some businesses are making better profits than others. The business of selling fragrance oils are part of the business wave of the future. Fragrance oils have been around for a long time. However, since the economy is so sluggish and money is harder to come by, more consumers are more sensitive to prices. Consumers that do not want to spend $85 - $125 for the designer perfumes have taken to shopping for and buying quality designer fragrance oils.
Some fragrance oils sellers buy oils wholesale and pour, bottle, label and box the oils themselves (note – this isn’t the most efficient or profitable method of running your fragrance selling business). One of the major drawbacks of doing so is that if you don’t know how to select the better quality oils, your business will suffer because customers don’t like poor quality oils – even though they’re paying much less than for perfumes. You should make it a point to only purchase fragrance oils from quality suppliers that guarantee high quality. Some fragrance oil wholesalers make their money by selling dramatically discounted oils. Often, these suppliers aren’t using better quality essential oils. Instead, they’re probably using oils that contain synthetic fillers. More and more consumers of fragrance oils are able to know higher quality fragrance oils from the lesser grades.
Although you’re operating a home base business, you do not have to use your home to display your oils or allow consumers to ‘shop.’ Of course, by selling to family and friends, you will probably feel comfortable with them coming into your home. But, with the business of selling fragrance oils, it isn’t required that you use your home as a storefront.
Many in the fragrance oil business rent space at flea markets, farmer’s markets, arts & crafts fairs, etc. Having a business website is nice to have, but, not necessary for this type of business. Fragrances are better sold when customers can smell and touch them. It is better to sell fragrance oils face-to-face.
Also, many that sell fragrance oils as a business regularly visit places where fragrance buyers congregate such as beauty parlors, day spas, nail shops, skin care boutiques, etc. Be sure to have business cards and/or flyers to distribute. An important consideration when using marketing tools such as business cards and flyers is to try to use a tool that consumers will ‘hold on’ to and keep. One of the best types of marketing tools is magnetized business cards. Calendars are also something that consumers keep. What’s important is that you leave your contact info with customers so that they can reach you later and tell others about your fragrance oils business.
Once again, currently, to sell fragrance oils as a business is to be a part of the growing businesses of the future. One of the key factors is selecting the best supplier of fragrance oils.
